Funding my training – The parity training fund

7 February 2024
Fonds social Us

The social fund is a joint financing scheme for the training and retraining of players who play or have played in the LNB.

To find out if you are eligible and if it is possible to activate it as part of your training or retraining project, we have prepared a note with all the information you need.

What is the Parity Training Fund?

Set up within the framework of the men’s professional basketball collective bargaining agreement, the Parity Training Fund has a dual objective.

  • The first is to help players fund training during or after their careers, in preparation for their career transition.
  • The second is to help players in serious social difficulty at the end of their careers.

How is the fund financed?

The fund is contributed to each season by the LNB clubs.

Each Betclic Elite club contributes €1,000 and each Pro B club contributes €500, for an annual total of €26,000.

How does it work?

All player files are sent to the LNB’s joint commission, which includes the SNB, the SCB (coaches’ union) and the UCPB (union of professional basketball clubs).

The LNB is also present, but is neither a negotiator nor a decision-maker.

Allocations from this fund are then studied and validated by these LNB parity commissions, after agreement by the three unions (SNB, SCB and UCPB).

Each file is examined on a case-by-case basis to determine the amount allocated to each player.

Which players are concerned?

This scheme applies to

-All professional players who play or have played in the LNB championships, and who have played three seasons in these championships;

-All former professional players who have played in LNB championships and who, within 2 years of the end of their career, are seeking a job.

The LNB season will be deemed to have been completed if the player can provide proof of at least 6 months’ employment with one or more LNB clubs during the corresponding season.

Aspiring/trainee players are not eligible for this scheme.

Which training courses are eligible?

All training courses enabling the player to develop skills and which are part of a professional and/or career transition project will be eligible.

Players will therefore be asked to identify and describe their project to the commission.

How do I apply for a training fund?

Contact your training consultant Arthur Daroux.

He will guide you through the process and tell you which documents to provide.

He will be the one to defend your application at the commission meeting.

Every year, a number of players benefit from the parity training fund to help them with their career transition, so how about you?
