As part of the European Day for Integrity in Sport, we wanted to talk to you about this subject, which concerns all those involved in French basketball.

As an integral part of the world of sport, sports betting is an opportunity for the public to interact with the game and sporting events.

For professional basketball players, this is a much more delicate area, requiring accurate and enlightened information. The SNB is actively involved in this prevention work with players, whether at the time of their first professional contract, in particular through the Rookie program, or throughout their career.

The SNB’s commitment is illustrated by its engagement in a European EU athletes’ program that addresses a wide range of issues, including the prevention of sports betting through a program called “Protect Integrity”.

The guiding principles of the program:

Never bet on your sport: Do not bet on your sport. This also applies to games in which you are not involved. It also aims to prohibit any form of sports betting through a third party.

Do not fix games This general prohibition is intended to apply to all types of games, even if the consequences are minimal or non-existent.

Do not divulge privileged information: All information relating to the team must be kept inside the team and must not be shared, for example through social networks.

Denounce approach attempts: You have been approached to fix a game? Don’t wait and report this behavior as soon as possible.

Know the rules of your sport: Understanding the rules of your sport when it comes to sports betting is the first step in preventing bad behavior! Don’t hesitate to contact the SNB if you have any questions.

Here are some examples of the penalties incurred:

– Sports and image: game(s) suspension

– Criminal: up to 5 years’ imprisonment and a €75,000 fine (offence)

– Employment contract: dismissal for serious misconduct

– Financial: financial penalties

On March 19, a meeting was held with the ANJ – National betting authority! It was an opportunity for players from our leagues to report to the authority on behaviors observed on and off the court.

It also enabled them to give their opinion on the ANJ’s platform and systems, and to discuss ways of constantly improving them.

You suspect manipulation of the competition? You have been approached to fix a game? You have information about suspicious behavior linked to sports betting?
