The SNB was at the Leaders Cup 2024!

Primarily a sporting event, the Leaders Cup is also an ideal opportunity to exchange views with the various French basketball authorities on a variety of subjects, and to take stock of developments in our championships.

During this event, we took part in several important meetings:

-LNB General Meeting;

-UCPB seminar;

-LNB parity commission.

  • LNB General Meeting

While for the public the Leaders Cup begins on Friday with the start of the ¼ finals, for us it starts on Thursday with the LNB General Meeting.

At this meeting, we took stock of the work underway within the LNB, and in particular the changes that the Betclic Elite and Pro B championships will undergo next season.

We also got a sneak preview of the LNB’s new logo and its new brand “LNB, Reveal French basketball”.

Finally, the LNB’s broadcasters, L’Equipe and Skweek, were also on hand to share their feedback on free-to-air broadcasts and on their platform, and to present the programs and developments planned for the 2024/2025 season.

  • UCPB seminar

The annual seminar of the Union of Professional Basketball Clubs (UCPB) was held on Friday to discuss two major topics:

-the evolution of the Pro B championship next season ;

-the training and retention of young players in our leagues.

It was an opportunity to compare different points of view and the problems encountered by the various players involved in French basketball.

  • LNB Joint Committee

Every two months, or even every month, we take part in the LNB’s joint commission, which is also attended by UCPB, the basketball coaches’ union (SCB) and the LNB.

These meetings are very important, as they are at the heart of our business.

It’s a time for exchange and negotiation between unions only (the LNB is not competent to negotiate and/or decide) around the professional basketball collective agreement.

The aim is to discuss the latest developments in your leagues, and to analyze legal developments with a view to proposing solutions to improve working conditions for players and coaches.

Salary minimums, aspirant-trainee status and the entry into force of your contracts are just some of the subjects we deal with in these commissions throughout the sporting season.

A very interesting Leaders Cup weekend, with many exchanges during and after the various meetings.

Indeed, the Leaders Cup is also an opportunity to exchange views with all the basketball families, including the LNB coaches and trainers present on site, who in turn take part in a 3-day seminar during which speakers such as Vincent Collet, Claude Bergeaud and Philippe Hervé come to pass on their knowledge to the coaches in training.

We also meet the agents and some of the scouts who have come to observe the players on site.

Finally, the most important thing for the SNB is to have a privileged exchange with the players on site, both active and retired.

SNB President Amara Sy was on hand to represent them over the four days. He was also part of the group of LNB legends, with whom he was able to discuss several current issues.

So we’ll be going home with plenty to work on!

We would like to thank the LNB for their invitation to this Leaders Cup 2024 and congratulate the players and clubs on their performances!
